Dealing With Suspicious Emails, Phone Calls & Text Messages

Suspicious messages might come from a company you don’t normally receive communications from, or someone you do not know. You may just have a hunch. If you are suspicious, you should report it. By doing so you'll be helping to protect many more people from being affected.

If you have received an email which you’re not quite sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS) at report@phishing.gov.uk.

Text message
Suspicious text messages should be forwarded to 7726. This free-of-charge short code enables your provider to investigate the origin of the text and take action, if found to be malicious.

Little Troopers Virtual Roadshow - Wiltshire Session Tuesday 8th June

Please click image to enlarge

Military children’s charity Little Troopers is inviting primary schools and their service children to sign-up to a free virtual workshop this June.

The two-hour workshop is completely free to attend and is part of a virtual roadshow that the charity is undertaking across England from 7th to 18th June for military children aged 4 to 11. Suitable for groups of any size, the workshop will give service children the opportunity to come together with others in a similar situation to explore some of the unique challenges they experience as members of the British Armed Forces community and to celebrate what it means to be a ‘Little Trooper’.

The session will be delivered by an experienced team of facilitators using Little Troopers’ primary school resources incorporating storytelling, movement, group discussion and drama. The activities are designed to encourage military children to feel proud of their identity as a forces child and to give schools the tools to help service children navigate any challenges they might face, either now or in the future.

Louise Fetigan, founder of Little Troopers, comments: “There are estimated to be more than 75,000 military children in UK schools and these children often experience life a bit differently from their civilian peers. Our Little Troopers At School project has been running for four years now and is all about giving schools useful information and resources to help them support their service children in the classroom.

We’re really excited to be able to offer our virtual workshops to primary schools across England this summer – something that we’ve been planning for a long time. Whether a school has two service pupils or two hundred, these workshops are a fun and engaging way to get these children together and focus on their needs and experiences. We can’t wait to meet all of your Little Troopers!”

The dates for the Little Troopers virtual roadshow have been organised by county so that pupils will be logging in at the same time as other children in their local area. For more information and to book a space on your nearest workshop click HERE (please note that you will have to signup for a free account to be able to register for this event)

Springboard - The Charity That Supports Pre-School Children With Special Needs In North Wiltshire

Springboard are a charity based in Chippenham that support children (aged 0-5) with special needs, as well as their families, across the whole of North Wiltshire.

Younger children and their families attend our stay and play groups whereas children aged 2 and above can access our specialist preschool.

We also provide information, support and training to families and other members of the community that interact with the Springboard children e.g. other preschool settings, childminders & primary school teachers/TA's.

What makes our Chippenham Centre unique and successful is our high staff to child ratio’s (1:1 or 1:2). In addition, our staff are trained to deal with the specific medical and learning needs the children might have. Mainstream preschool settings are generally not able to provide this level of extra specialist support that some children with additional needs require to make progress.

Future Accommodation Model - Success Story

The way people live and work is changing and the Future Accommodation Model (FAM) reflects this. FAM gives more choice to support the needs of Service personnel over where, how and with whom they live. With FAM personnel can still select Single Living Accommodation (SLA) or Service Family Accommodation (SFA), but they can also choose to live in private rental accommodation or buy their own home with support from the MOD.

FAM applies equally to Service personnel whether single, married, in a civil partnership, long term established relationship or parents such as Lt Col Chris Farrelly, who have their children over 80 nights per calendar year. This means that Service personnel assigned to a pilot site, who are eligible, can choose the accommodation that best suits their needs, whether they want to live closer to a particular school or nursery, on the base, in town with their friends or somewhere they and their partner can both easily commute from.

Click HERE to hear Army Lt Col Chris Farrelly's story about how under FAM he’s received Service Family Accommodation as his daughter stays with him on a regular basis.

To find out more about FAM visit Discover My Benefits HERE to find out which FAM payments, allowances and support could apply to your personal situation. You can also find out more on the Gov.uk website HERE

Text Scam Including Supermarket Delivery Messages

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute has issued a warning of a text scam involving supermarket delivery messages.

One of the phoney texts states that "your Asda order is out for delivery" and links to a webpage supposedly allowing the recipient "to track your order and view your delivery note." Another similar message references an order from Morrisons. Scammers use the links to obtain personal details from the recipient, putting their finances at risk.

These supermarket scam messages come while similar scam campaigns such as a Royal Mail delivery scam, various phoney banking messages, and a National Insurance number scam target the public.

If you receive suspicious texts like these, please contact the supermarket if you shop with them to verify. Also, forward any scam texts to 7726, which is a free reporting service ran by Ofcom. This information is then shared with authorities so that they can grasp the full extent of this problem.

World Blood Donor Day - 14th June 2021 - Army Campaign

The Army is supporting the NHS to increase the number of new blood donors through a partnership that will run to World Blood Donor Day on 14 Jun 21. Blood must be used within 35 days of a donation so it’s important to run this over a longer period and help close the NHS deficit of 4000 donors.

Every type of blood is important and will help to save a life. If you are Regular or Reserve, an MOD employee or family member; your contribution matters. Please check if you can give blood HERE then register with your regional blood and transplant services (click the country for the relevant links):

When you have registered please fill in this short survey HERE so we can count your contribution towards the 4000 target.

The NHS needs more male, black heritage and universal donors, so if you fall into one of these categories you are likely to be fast tracked.

Wiltshire Dog Watch

A new Dog Watch scheme has been set up by Wiltshire Police to help reassure owners around the safety of their pets.

Over the past few months there has been a rising perception and concern that more dog thefts and attempted dog thefts are taking place across the country. This has primarily been driven by social media comments and reports.

As a result, the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, supported by Forces across the country, carried out a national survey on dog thefts in March this year. The Dog Watch scheme will be driven through the Wiltshire Community Messaging site.

For further details and to sign up to the scheme, please click HERE

Please note, you should still report any attempted thefts via 101 or the Wiltshire Police website.
